TypTalk
TypTalk is a dictation app for the Mac. You talk, and the text appears in the app you are working in. A project of my own, from name and logo to the app and the landing page.

Overview
TypTalk is a project of my own: a dictation app for macOS. You hold the right Option key, say what you want to say, and the text appears straight away in the app you are working in. Name, brand, app and landing page grew up together, so everything speaks the same language.

The brand
The name says what the app does: you talk, it types. The logo is a wordmark with a sound wave on either side in four soft colours: pink, blue, lilac and mint. That same wave moves along in the app while you speak. The mark also works on its own, as the app icon in the Dock and on the back of the business card.

Colour and typography
The palette is light and soft: lavender as the base, with pastels in pink, blue, lilac and lime for labels and statistics, and night for text and lines. Dark mode turns it around: deep purple as the background, with the same pastels on top. Every pastel has a darker accent for icons, so everything stays readable.

Headings are set in Uxum Bold, a heavy grotesque with character. Below that simply SF Pro, the system font of the Mac, so the app feels like it belongs to macOS. Cards have a thin dark line and rounded corners, labels are pastel capsules.

The app
The app is built in Swift and has two modes. Fast runs a speech model locally on your Mac and is done in about 70 milliseconds, Accurate goes through the cloud. A personal dictionary learns names and jargon, the history keeps everything you have said, and a small panel at the bottom of the screen shows that TypTalk is listening.

The landing page
The landing page tells the story in the same language: big headings in Uxum, the wave, and the three steps. It is bilingual, Dutch and English, and has a light and a dark mode.
